Marjorie Jean Augerson, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully, Monday, June 26, 2023 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

Marg was born February 3, 1936 in Tomah, Wisconsin, the daughter of Claude R. and Elsie E. (Fonger) Armstrong. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1954, Marjorie married Robert G. Augerson on October 30, 1954 in Galesburg. In 1964, they moved to California where they raised their children. In 2000, Marg and Bob returned to Galesburg.

Marg worked in sales for TG&Y then Sears her entire life, having in home childcare in between. Her greatest love was the kids, keeping in touch with many of them as they became adults. After returning to Galesburg, Marg continued working at Sears until she retired in 2010. Marg had many talents, and her home was always the go to place for everything from baking cakes, cooking, sewing, and making wedding dresses. Marg loved to cook for her friends and family and always found an excuse for a get-together. She was of the Christian faith.

Marg is survived by her children; one son, Doug Augerson of Foothill Ranch, California; four daughters, Jan Augerson-Walters of Galesburg, Larissa Tortorette of Knoxville, Beth Augerson of Galesburg, and Debbie (Tim) McClure of Buena Park, California; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren with one on the way; and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Howard (Joyce) Armstrong of Galesburg; special nieces and nephews, Mary Walters, Joe (Teresa) Smith, and Ellajean Blunt all of Galesburg; and many, many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Marg was preceded in death by one grandson, Dominic Tortorette; one great grandson, Kyle Ambrosi; four brothers and two sisters.

Private family graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery where Marg and Bob will be interred. A celebration of life will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 10, 2023 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. In honor of Marg’s love for cooking and baking please feel free to bring your favorite dish to share. The family wishes for no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made in Marg’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
