James Roger Cummings, 85, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 12:02 pm, Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL
Roger was born January 25, 1938 in East Moline, IL the son of Richard and M. Faye (Fritz) Cummings. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1956. He later attended Monmouth College.
Roger married JoAnn M. Hollinrake on February 4, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keithsburg, IL and she survives.
Roger worked 25 years with the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 91 out of Rock Island, IL. Roger worked 40 years with Axline Pharmacy in Monmouth, managing the photo department along with several other areas.
Roger was a member of the Elks Club and the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 91. He coached basketball at the YMCA and ICS for several years. Roger’s passion was photography, taking photos of his family and nature.
Surviving is his wife, JoAnn Cummings; his children, Bryan R. (Diann) Cummings of Ripley, MS, Christina J. (Richard) Stevens of Monmouth, Angela K. (Jason) Shriver of West Jordan, UT, Darren J. (Katy) Cummings of Hayward, WI, Elise M. (Todd) Main of Rio, IL and Fletcher P. (Noel) Cummings of Monmouth; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one brother, Jan G. (Janet) Cummings of Galesburg, IL; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Cummings.
Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday, July 7, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation has been accorded. A private family interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Immaculate Conception Gym Project.
