Mrs. Mary L. Anderson, 85, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 9:32 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Illinois.
She was born March 8, 1941, in Aledo, Illinois, the daughter of Russell and Mary Virginia (Marple) Anderson. She married Louie M. Anderson on February 24, 1963, in Monmouth, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 31, 2024.
Surviving are her two sons, Russell (and Jackie Simpson) Anderson of Galesburg and William (and Kathy) Anderson of Monmouth; a brother-in-law, Martin Runkle of Bellefontaine, Ohio; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Louie Anderson; her parents; and three sisters, Denise Runkle, Darlene Hinton, and Cheryl Longbrake.
Mary graduated from Monmouth High School in 1960 and went on to obtain her Registered Nurse license from Carl Sandburg College. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, and St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg for several years before retiring.
Mary was a devoted member of the Baptist faith and attended the former Prairieland Baptist Church in Galesburg. She spent much of her time praising the Lord and showing her gratitude, love, and kindness to those around her. In her free time, Mary enjoyed expressing her artistic talents through oil painting. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden and researching her family genealogy on her mother’s side. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and cherished the time she shared with her family.
As Mary requested, cremation will be accorded. A private graveside service will be held at Warren County Hope Cemetery between Galesburg and Alexis.
