Wilbur Leroy Lentz, age 89, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 9:05 P.M. on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at his home in Galesburg.

On January 24, 1934, Wilbur was born at his family home near Seaton in Mercer County, Illinois, the son of Cluster J. and Helen L. (Newton) Lentz. He graduated from Galesburg High School with the class of 1952. Wilbur was joined in marriage to Betty L. Galyean on January 30, 1953 in Galesburg. They were married for sixty-two wonderful years, until Betty’s death on June 28, 2015.

Left to cherish Wilbur’s memory are his three sisters: Wilma Jean McMichael of Peoria, Illinois, Cheryl Lasley, and Lavonne (and Jan) Ramp of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers: Lawrence and Louis Lentz.

Wilbur was of the Jehovah’s Witness faith. He worked as a carpenter, and greatly enjoyed his work. He loved to build and fix things and could often be found tinkering with projects and tending to his beloved flower garden.

Cremation rites will be accorded. As per Wilbur’s wishes, there are no services planned. Watson Thomas Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Private burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg.
