Donald Dean Eatherton, 84, of Avon, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Don was born December 14, 1938, in Moberly, MO the son of Alvin Eatherton and Dorothy “Lottie” Howard. He was raised and educated in Avon.

Don married Kathleen Van Middlesworth on September 20, 1958 in Ellisville and she preceded him in death on March 24, 2000. In their 42 years of marriage, they had two daughters and a son.

Those left to cherish his memory are; daughters, Donna (Richard) Giles of Washington, Kathy (Glen) Strange of Bushnell, IL; son, Greg Eatherton of Avon; 3 grandchildren, Tashina Strange of Bushnell, IL, Wesley (Christine) Strange of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Ashley (Pravat) Giles of Black Diamond, WA; great-grandchildren, Austin, Ashanti, Kellen, Cameron, and baby boy Strange due in September. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Herschel Redding; wife; sister, Betty Poyner, an infant sister and many extended family members.

Don was retired from Maytag Manufacturing after 34 years of employment. He enjoyed his family and loved all of the family gatherings over the years. He started his day reading the newspaper, playing solitaire, and working crosswords and word searches. He enjoyed playing pool, cards, and going to the river boat. Don enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. His garden was his pride and joy. He was known to have an abundance of the earliest and grandest tomatoes. His summers were filled with fishing, mowing and getting out early to go to yard sales and auctions with his son. He loved hunting with his shot gun and his bow.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in the Avon Cemetery, Avon, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Fire Department and left in the care of the funeral home. Moore Memorial Home-Avon is handling the arrangements.
