Monmouth’s Alan Betourne Hits the Summer Baseball Recruiting Trail

Share

In just over 7 seasons, Alan Betourne has already amassed the 3rd most career coaching wins for the Monmouth College baseball program. He has won 138 games since taking over the program in 2016 from his former coach at Monmouth, Roger Sander. In just three short years, Betourne led the Scots to a school-record 29 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2002, when Betourne was a freshman backup first baseman for the Scots. His 2019 squad won 22 games and the Midwest Conference’s South Division crown, before falling in the conference tournament semifinals. Betourne won the Midwest Conference Coach of the Year Award in both of those seasons. He had big expectations for the Scots heading into the spring of 2020 before it was canceled after 10 games due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As a player at Monmouth College, Betourne was a three-time all-Midwest Conference selection, hitting .344 during his four-year career from 2002 to 2005. He then spent two years playing professional baseball in McKinney, Texas, and was selected to play in the Continental League All-Star game.

The Scots are coming off a (16-23) season this past spring and Betourne is determined to get the program back into the Midwest Conference and National Tournament. He knows to do that, he has to hit the recruiting trail even harder, which he has been doing this summer.

Coach Betourne recapped this past season, gave an update on the recruiting process and the type of player that he’s looking for at our Halfway to Freezing for Food food drive in early June.

Betourne’s 138 wins in just over seven seasons puts him 205 victories behind the legendary Terry Glasgow’s 243 wins in 21 seasons. and 232 victories behind Roger Sander’s all-time Scots baseball coaching mark of 370 wins in 22 seasons at the helm.
