Roger Stanley Fones, 70, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home, Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 5:02 p.m., with his family by his side.

Roger was born September 29, 1952 in Galesburg, the son of Richard Stanley and Betty Suzanna (Westfall) Fones. Roger graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971 and began working at White’s Roofing. He worked for a time at NAIER in maintenance before joining the family business, Fones and Son’s Roofing, retiring in 2010. Roger then worked for CUSD #205 as a custodian from 2010 until he fully retired in 2016.

Roger married Nancy Irene Behrens on June 20, 1975 in Galesburg. Roger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy of Galesburg; two sons, Nick Fones of Galesburg and Justin (Kristin) Fones of Henderson, Illinois; and three grandchildren, Kaelyn, Keegan, and Leighton. Roger is also survived by three brothers, Bob (Rhonda) Fones of Knoxville, Illinois, Ronnie Fones of Houston, Texas, and Ray Fones of Galesburg. Along with his parents, Roger was preceded in death by one sister, Ronda Knowles.

Roger was a golf fanatic, playing for many years, including taking several trips with his friends. He loved to watch baseball and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed tending to his yard, with many people commenting that it looked like a golf course. Roger loved to ride motorcycles, riding for many years.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Cremation will be accorded following services. Fellowship and celebration will follow services at Harley’s Pub and Banquet Hall, 2243 Grand Ave, Galesburg, IL. Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
