Illinois’ Best Whiskey Announced At The Farm Progress Show

Earlier in August, whiskey makers from across the country entered their corn-based whiskeys in the 2023 Heartland Whiskey Contest. Distillers from 20 “Heartland” states (states with partnering corn associations) were able to compete for the titles of Best-of-Show, Best-of-State, and Top- Farmer-Distiller. On top of that, entries from all 50 states competed in traditional whiskey categories.

Illinois Corn Executive Director Rodney Weinzierl says they announced the results of that contest on Tuesday at the Farm Progress Show.

“We just announced that here at the Farm Progress Show, Whiskey Acres was the winner for Illinois. The national winner, I believe, was from Kentucky,” said Wienzierl. “This year was also unique in that we had for the first time a Farmer Distillery Award. This is a distillery that’s owned by a farmer, and they use their own products to distill and make their particular bourbon or whiskey and that winner was from Maryland this year.”

The Heartland Whiskey Contest is the only whiskey contest located in the Midwest.
