Chicago Sports Update into the Weekend

The Cubs continue their playoff chase with a game against the Braves tonight in Atlanta.  The Cubs and Diamondbacks are both tied for the final two NL Wild Card spots at 82-and-74.  However, the Cubs are just one game ahead of the surging Miami Marlins, who have won their last two games.  Justin Steele gets the start for Chicago tonight.

The White Sox begin their final home-stand with a game against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Guaranteed Rate Field tonight.  The White Sox are coming off a series win over the Boston Red Sox over the weekend.  Chicago is in fourth-place in the AL Central at 60-and-96.  Jose Urena takes the mound for the Southsiders tonight.

The Bears will spend the week gearing up for a game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.  The Bears are still searching for their first win of the season after falling to 0-and-3 with a 41-10 loss to the Chiefs this past Sunday.  The Broncos are also winless this season, and they were beaten even worse than the Bears over the weekend, becoming the first team since 1966 to give up 70 points in a game.

A Chicago Fire FC midfielder is being honored for his performance on Saturday.  The MLS named midfielder Brian Gutierrez to its Team of the Matchday yesterday.  Gutierrez had a goal and an assist in Chicago’s 2-2 draw against the New England Revolution over the weekend.  Gutierrez and the rest of the Fire visit the New York Red Bulls this Saturday.
