The Monmouth College men’s soccer team rallied from behind twice on Saturday and picked up a big 3-2 home win over Lake Forest College. The Scots (3-8-2, 2-1-2) are now in a three-way tie with Lake Forest and Beloit on eight points, one behind Cornell with IC still yet to play on Saturday.

Lake Forest took an early lead in the sixth minute but the Scots came right back. Just 90 seconds later, freshman Carter Breuchaud (Lebanon, Illinois) scored his second goal of the season to tie the game. The Foresters scored in the final minute of the half to take a 2-1 lead into the break.

The Scots tied the game in the 47th minute. Montgomery Schroeder (Harrisonville, Missouri) slammed home a penalty kick to tie the game 2-2. Just a few minutes later, Schroeder had the assist as senior Tanner Viren (East Moline, Illinois) scored his first career goal for a 3-2 Monmouth lead. The Scots dug in defensively and held on for the final half hour to ride out the win.

Goalkeeper Christopher Zavala (New Lenox, Illinois) made 11 saves for the Scots as Lake Forest outshot Monmouth 17-5.

MONMOUTH MOMENTS: Monmouth has scored at least two goals in six straight games. Zavala, Viren, Nathan Braun (Clancy, Montana), Logan Corgan (Geneseo, Illinois), and Ramon Aguilar (St. Louis, Missouri) played all 90 minutes. Breuchaud led the Scots with two shots on goal. The Scots are home on Tuesday against rival Knox at 4 p.m.
