Story by Parker Cassidy
The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes opened their 2025 season last Friday hosting the Annawan-Wethersfield Titans. The Tornadoes came out firing in this one, striking first on a 55-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jamil Johnson to take a 6-0 lead. A-Town extended the advantage moments later, after the Titan’s fumbled an option toss that was recovered by the Tornadoes for an 82-yard touchdown return. Unfortunately, that was the last bright spot of the half for the Tornadoes, as Annawan-Wethersfield rallied to take 24-14 lead into the half. The second half followed the same trend, the Tornadoes fall 44-14 in week one.
Head Coach Rick Quinn says his squad doesn’t have time to dwell, as they are right back in action this Friday with a tough Lincoln Land Small School road matchup this Friday at Stark County.
Abingdon-Avon will be looking to improve their record to 1-1, while Stark County aims to keep a 0 in their loss column. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Toulon on Friday.
