Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 22, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is sophomore football player, Nick Huston. Nick’s defensive effort in the 4th quarter helped seal the Titan’s playoff-clinching win at Sherrard. He totaled 4 sacks in the game, with most of them coming in the final minutes. Nick’s effort at fullback also helped pave the way for 387 total rushing yards for the Titans, as well.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Callie Mason. Callie has been a big part of the Red Storm’s success this season and it wasn’t any more evident than in two big wins last week. In those two matches, she totaled 26 kills, 6 blocks and 12 digs. That was tops on the team in those categories. She also led the team in service aces with 5.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore football player, Cody Wade. Cody’s 83 yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 4th quarter brought the Heat to within a touchdown of the playoff-bound West Prairie/Southeastern co-op. Along with 50 rushing yards on offense, Cody was also a beast on defense, accounting for an amazing 22 total tackles.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is freshman girls cross country runner, Grae Boone. After Grae’s solid performance at the class 2A regional meet at her home course of Lake Storey, she qualified for the sectional meet in Geneseo. Her time of 22:17 put her in 28th place in the standings, enough to move on in the postseason.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Sophie Kern. Sophie put up solid numbers across the board last week. In three matches, she posted an amazing 47 total digs and smashed 11 kills. Sophie was also strong from the service line, garnering 6 aces.
