The West Central Heat 8-man football team wrapped up their season this past Friday with a loss to the West Prairie/Southeastern co-op by a score of 36-22. Like the A-Town football squad, the Heat bounced back late in the season from a rough start in their schedule. After losing their first four contests, the Heat finished with a record of 3-2 in their final five games, with wins over the Galva Wildcats, Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans, and the Decatur Lutheran/Mt.Pulaski co-op. Numerous other local 8-man teams including Ridgewood, Bushnell-Prairie City, and West Prairie/Southeastern will be competing in the I8FA playoffs beginning this weekend. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, Heat Head Coach Jason Kirby discussed the upcoming 8-man tournament, previewing which teams could potentially make a deep run to play in the 8-man championship game at April Zorn Memorial Stadium in Monmouth.

For the local 8-man schools, Ridgewood is a 9 seed and will travel to 8 seeded South Fork on Friday night, while West Prairie/Southeastern is an 11 seed and will also travel on Friday night, going up north to play perennial power Polo. Bushnell-Prairie City will play their first round game on Saturday, taking on the number one seed in 8-man in undefeated St.Thomas More.
