3.6 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Illinois

Share

Officials say Wednesday’s earthquake in northern Illinois was the strongest in several years. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred just southeast of Standard. Data shows that the quake was the strongest the state has recorded since at least September 2017 when a 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Bellmont in Wabash County. The title for the strongest earthquake in the northern part of the state belongs to Lockport, which recorded a magnitude-5.1 quake in May 1909.
