Big Day of Football in Monmouth on Saturday

Story by Kadin Rogers

It will be a big Saturday on the Prairie Communications Sports Network, with two big matchups in the town of Monmouth. Beginning at 1:00, the Monmouth College Fighting Scots football team will host Lake Forest in a huge match up within the Midwest Conference. Both the Scots and Foresters sit at 6-1 in conference play, meaning this contest could serve as a de facto elimination game, as Illinois College also sits at 6-1 with just Cornell and Beloit left to play. Monmouth’s offense has had no difficulties racking up points this season, scoring 47.1 points per game through 8 games, while Lake Forest has had an immovable defense, allowing just 3.1 points per game and holding teams to 0 points on five separate occasions. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show on Monday, Scots Head Coach Chad Braun says his team will need to match the Foresters on all three levels of the game in order to come away with the win at April Zorn.

If the Scots take down the Foresters they will improve to 7-1 in the conference, and will need to beat Knox next Saturday, as well as getting a loss from IC to have a shot at taking the MWC crown. Monmouth’s matchup with Lake Forest will kick-off at 1:00 from April Zorn Memorial Stadium in Monmouth, you can hear all the action live on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM, coverage will begin with the pregame show at 12:40.

After the Scots game is done you can flip your dial to Sunny 97.7 WMOI, as the Monmouth-Roseville Titans host in round 2 of the class 3A IHSA playoffs. After defeating North Boone 35-14 on the road in the first round, the Titans will now host their first playoff contest since their 2018 run to the quarterfinals. Monmouth-Roseville’s opponent will be one that is all too familiar to the Titans, as state ranked Princeton rolls into Coach Dobry Field for the second time this season, with the Tigers taking that week 1 contest 40-0. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, Titans Head Coach Jeremy Adolphson says his team will have to rely on their ability to play as a cohesive unit in order to move on to round 3.

Monmouth-Roseville’s playoff game with Princeton is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00, so our PCSN coverage will begin with the pregame show at 4:40.
