Story by Parker Cassidy

The West Central Heat opened their 2025 football season last Friday, coming off a 6-4 campaign in 2024 that ended with a first-round playoff loss.

West Central kicked off the new year with a tough matchup against the West Carroll Thunder. The Heat kept things close through the first quarter, trailing just 7-0, but turnovers proved costly. The Thunder capitalized on a string of mistakes, erupting for 28 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a commanding 35-0 halftime lead.

The Heat defense tightened up after the break, holding West Carroll to just one score in the second half, but the offense was unable to break through. West Central falls in their opener 42-0.

The Heat will look to bounce back this Friday with a two-hour road trip to Ashton-Franklin Center. Head Coach Jason Kirby shares a few keys ahead of the contest.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Ashton.
