Is Your Vehicle Prepared for Winter Driving?

Share

Winter weather will make its’ way to the Midwest before you know it. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer offers tips for traveling in those wet, icy, or snowy conditions:

“Just take your time, especially if the road conditions are bad. Things that you can do in case you are traveling, pack some type of kit in case you get stranded somewhere temporarily. Keep a blanket in your car. They recommend a gallon or two of water. Obviously you want to have some jumper cables, have a scraper and a brush, and throw some snacks in there. If the snow is deep, having a small shovel and kitty litter works really well if you are stuck on the ice. Make sure to take things you can dress warm with and if you do have your car running, crack the windows so you can get some ventilation.”

Chief Switzer also advises not leaving your car if you find yourself stuck in the snow or your vehicle breaks down and leaves you stranded and keeping your cell phone fully charged.
