Marine Corp Veteran and McDonough County Sheriff Nicholas Petitgout Shares Advice for the Younger Generation

With Veteran’s Day approaching, McDonough County Sheriff Nicholas Petitgout, a local Marine Corp Veteran himself, offers his appreciation and advice for the younger generation:

“Veterans, thank you for your service and continue to serve. I think that is the one thing that people overlook with Veterans is that the vast majority of us continue to serve. I tell people all the time, I have done nothing but work for the government since I was 18 or 19 years old. Whether I was in the Marine Corp and then becoming a Deputy Sheriff and a police officer and eventually the Sheriff, just a life of service. If you are 17 or 18 years old and you don’t know what you want to do with your life, join the military. I tell these kids that. Join the National Guard. Join the Air National Guard, there is a unit in Peoria. Seriously, if you don’t know what you want to do with your life. That is just what I needed to set me down the right path. I am a huge supporter of the Armed Services.”

The annual Veteran’s Day program will be held at the Monmouth American Legion beginning at 10 am on Saturday, November 11th and also broadcast on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM.
