Mark D. Free, 69, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:50 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at his home.

Mark was born on April 25, 1954, the son of James and Gladys A. (Kinney) Free in Monmouth. He was raised and educated in Little York, IL and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1972.

He worked for the State of Illinois for 21 years and Columbia Decorating which he retired from in 2021. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth.

He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his family. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mark is survived by his parents, Jim and Gladys of Little York; brothers, Barry (Mary Ann) Free of Seaton, IL and Stan (Mary Ann) Free of Sugar Grove, IL; son-in-law, Eric Clifton of Galesburg, IL; grandchildren, Collin Britton, Randell Clifton, and Nadia Clifton; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by two children, Jennifer Kay Free and Sara Nicole Clifton; his brother, Tom Free; two sisters-in-law, Missy Free and Cheryl Free; his maternal grandparents, Frances and Henry Kinney; and his paternal grandparents, Torrence and Marjorie Free.

Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Interment will be in Belmont Cemetery at a later date.   Memorials may be made to the Little Cedar Church and can be sent to the funeral home.
