Keep Your Pets Warm and Safe This Winter Season

Share

Cold and snowy days seem to be unavoidable during Illinois winters. If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for your pets, reminds Knox County Humane Society Executive Director Erin Buckmaster:

“Please don’t put your pet out on a chain and forget it is out there because it is just too cold. I always tell people that if it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them. A lot of animals can get frostbite and the terriers really don’t have very much fur. You may have a husky that doesn’t mind it at all, but some of those dogs just don’t have enough fur to be left outside. Please, if you see a dog in danger too, where someone has left them outside, call your local authorities.”

Simple guidelines from humanesociety.org in keeping your pets warm and safe this winter: if your pet is outdoors make sure they have shelter, for short-haired pets bundle them up in a sweater and wipe down their paws after going for walks to discard any salts or chemicals.
