Mark Painter, 67, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Mark Phillip Painter was born in Monmouth, Illinois on March 4, 1956, the son of Russell and Betty (Schisler) Painter.

Mark grew up in Monmouth and attended Monmouth Schools, graduating with the Monmouth High School Class of 1974. Mark was a mechanic and worked for Don Farm for many years at the Kerr McGee Station in Monmouth. In 1986 Mark began working at Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth. In his 36 years of service, he worked in maintenance for the first two years, and then took over the mechanics position fixing and servicing all of the vehicles. Along with that he also helped drive van routes when needed. He did this all but one year until his retirement. Since his retirement, he went back to work at Warren Achievement Center as a part-time driver until his death.

Mark married Karri King on December 29, 2007 in Monmouth, Illinois. They were soul mates from the very beginning, since January of 2006.

Mark was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed boating and going to the casino. In his younger years, Mark enjoyed racing, motor cross, and then began to ride Harley’s. He especially enjoyed the Harley trips with friends to the Lake of the Ozarks in the summer.

Mark had many friends and never seemed to know a stranger. He would help anyone at anytime if he could. He was also quite the storyteller, and loved making others laugh; including asking them to “Pull his Finger.”

Mark is survived by his wife Karri of Monmouth, Illinois, his mother and step-father, Betty and Bob Clark of Phoenix, Arizona, his brother, Mike Painter of Smithville, Texas, and one half-brother, Chris Painter of Monmouth, Illinois. He is also survived by his step-children, James, Mandy, Kris, Daren, Kelly, and Linda King, his favorite aunt, Marilyn “Jo” Johnson of Monmouth, Illinois, and many uncles, cousins, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his father Russell Painter, grandparents Zerelda and Hap Painter and Pearl and Mary Catherine Schilser, his in-laws Don and Mary Farris, his step-sons, Roger and Kyle King, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A funeral service for Mark is planned for 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, Illinois. The family is requesting casual dress in remembrance of Mark. In lieu of flowers, and remembering Mark’s allergies to flowers, donations can be made to the family for a charity to be designated later. For more information, or to leave a remembrance of Mark, please visit www.turnbullfuneralhomes.com.
