Dena R. Garrison passed away at 8:28 pm Friday, January 19, 2024, at home surrounded by her family at the age of 62 after a courageous three-year battle of colon cancer.
Dena was born in Galesburg on November 25, 1961, the daughter of Woodrow W. and Hilma R. (Peterson) McDorman. She married the love of her life, Mark L. Garrison on November 9, 1991, in Galesburg.
Dena is survived by her husband of 32 years, Mark of Galesburg; her mother, Hilma McDorman of Galesburg; her siblings, Woodrow (Kelli) McDorman of Galesburg, Wilma (Ted) Brown of Peoria, Arizona, and Wayne McDorman of Galesburg; her half-brothers Robert (Stephanie) McDorman of Kewanee, Illinois and Ryan McDorman of Galesburg; her mother/father-in-law, Joyce (Dick) Mayall of Wataga, Illinois; her in-laws, Steve Marquis, Linda Marquis, Robert Garrison, Jr. and Debra (William) Franckey. Dena also is survived by many nieces and nephews, Ashley Miner, Samantha (Ricky) Lundquist, Austin McDorman, Gage (Camie) McDorman, Dakota McDorman, Lindsey Brown, Kris (Sarah) Brant, Sarah (Jake) Franckey, Laura (Nick) Winholt, Robert Brant and one great nephew Jordan Miner of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents as well as her father, Woodrow McDorman Jr. and many cherished aunts and uncles.
She worked at Spencer Gifts at the Sandburg Mall for 20 years ending in 2003. She made many, many friends over the years at Spencer Gifts. She then accepted a job at Community Bank, which later became Tompkins Bank and has been a part of their team for 20 years. She really enjoyed working and always wanted to work at a bank. She formed many lasting friendships during her working career.
Dena always enjoyed crafting, coloring, games but had the most fun sharing activities with her family and friends. She was a member of the former Bethany Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Hinchliff Pearson West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm Friday, January 26, 2024, at the chapel. The burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
