Leota M. Grover, age 84, of Monmouth; passed away at 8:32 pm on January 17, 2024 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home in Galesburg, Illinois. Leota was born on March 19, 1939 in Monmouth and is the daughter of Theodore and Vera Hall. She was raised in the home of Bert and Blanche Allen here in Monmouth. Leota attended the local grade schools and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1957. She later attended Midstate College in Peoria, Illinois where she attained her certification as a Medical Transcriptionist. Leota married  Edward F.Grover on October 28, 1962 in Monmouth at the First Baptist Church. Leota first worked as clerk at the Woolworth Dime Store in Monmouth from 1955 to 1957. She then was employed as an operator for General Telephone Company for a time and then was a Teletype Operator for the Review Atlas Newspaper of Monmouth from 1966 to 1978. From 1979 to 1984 Leota was the supervisor for Hardee’s Fast Food Restaurant of Monmouth, then was employed as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant at both the LeMoine Christian Nursing in Roseville and Pinewood Nursing Home in Monmouth. Lastly she was a CNA and scheduler for Western Illinois Home Health Care from 1990 to her retirement in 2004.

Leota is survived by her son, Mark Grover and his significant, Annette St. Ledger of Monmouth, and two sisters, Eulalah Kidd of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Martha Lovell of Monmouth, Illinois. She is preceded in her death by her parents and foster parents Bert and Blanche Allen, husband Ed, three sisters, Margaret Hall, Katherine Mettler, and Beverly Lindsey, cousins which she grew up as Brothers and Sister, Walter Allen, Paul Allen, and Evelyn Thomas.

A funeral service is being planned on Thursday January 25, 2024 at 10:30 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Her family plans a visiting hour at the funeral home for the hour prior to the service Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment will be in the Warren County Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
