Larry L. Powell, 80, of Monmouth IL, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
Larry was born May 14, 1946 in Burlington, IA, the son of Leonard and Camillus (Armson) Powell. He was raised and educated in Kirkwood, IL, and graduated from Little York High School in 1964. He later completed one year of study at Joliet College in Joliet, IL.
Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he served for 4 years during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sergeant.
Larry married Mary J. Upton in Monmouth on June 27, 1969 and she survives.
Larry worked as an Automotive Parts Department Manager for Dennison Ford in Bloomington, IL and later at City Ford in Monmouth.
Larrys enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a Life Member of the Monmouth V.F.W Post 2301, where he served as Commander for 3 years.
Survivors include, his wife; Mary J. Upton; daughter, Tracy Cassiday; son, Eric Powell all of Monmouth; two grandsons, Jacob Hunt and Tyler Hunt; three great granddaughters, Rylea Hunt, Renly Hunt and Rowen Hunt; and a special little boy, Rogan Benson; his two sisters, Becky Powell and Penny Powell, both of Biloxi, MS; his niece, Yovonne Hall of Texas; two great nephews, Elijah Hall, Noah Hall; and one great niece, Abigail Hall.
He is proceeded in death by, his parents; Leonard and Camillus Powell; and his brother, Dan Powell.Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 17, 2026 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Cremation has been accorded. No visitation is planned. Memorials can be made to the Freedom Ride Animal Rescue and can be sent to the funeral home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
