The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees voted to approve the appointment of Vice President of Quad Cities Campus Operations Kristi Mindrup to interim president of WIU, effective April 1.

“We greatly appreciate everything Dr. Huang has done for this University during his last three years here, and we thank him for bringing integrity and strong character to his role,” Board Chair Carin Stutz said. “The Board and I are grateful to him for his dedicated and tireless service to WIU.”

Stutz also expressed appreciation for Mindrup stepping in as interim president.

“We appreciate that Dr. Mindrup is stepping in and taking the reins. She has the full support of the board. She has accepted this position with grace, determination and a strategic mindset, and most importantly, a bias for action. We are so proud that an internal candidate who knows our beloved University so well is excited to lead us into the future,” added Stutz.

At the meeting, the Board also approved President Guiyou Huang’s separation agreement.

In other business, the Board voted to increase tuition by 3% for new undergraduate and graduate students and to assess international student tuition at 1.75 times the in-state rate.

The 2024-25 tuition rate for new domestic undergraduate students on the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses will be $336.50/credit hour for undergraduate students and $386.18/credit hour for new graduate students.

The WIU Tuition Guarantee ensures that undergraduate students pay the same rate for tuition for their four years of continuous enrollment. WIU also offers numerous automatic scholarship incentives.

The Board also voted that Student Health Insurance Program rates will increase in Fiscal Year 2025 to $1,061.00 per half year or $2,122.00 per full year, and the double occupancy housing and dining rate will be an academic year increase of $400 or 3.66%.

Complete tuition, fees, room and meal plan information, along with incoming graduate and international student tuition and fees for the 2024-25 academic year, can be found in the Board materials at wiu.edu/bot.

The full agenda and meeting materials/documents can be found at wiu.edu/bot, while the meeting audio stream recording can be found at youtube.com/user/WesternIllinoisU.

The next Board meeting will be held June 3-4 in the University Union Capitol room on the Macomb campus.
