On Tuesday May 21st at 2:05 AM, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at
1016 East 11th Avenue. Engine 23 and Ladder 40 responded to the scene and found a mobile
home with heavy fire venting from the structure. Assistant Chief Cozadd upgraded the alarm to a
“Working Still” and then to a “Box Alarm” bringing off-duty Monmouth Firefighters, Galesburg
Hospital Ambulance Service, and the RSP&E Fire Protection District. The initial crew used the
master stream on Engine 23 to knock down the main body of the fire while water supply was
being established. Crews continued extinguishment with two 1 ¾” attack lines putting out the
remaining fire that caused substantial damage to the home and contents. There were no injuries,
but one resident is displaced due to the home being a total loss. The cause of the fire is under
investigation by Monmouth Fire Department Investigators. Other agencies assisting at the scene
were the Monmouth Police Department and Ameren Illinois. MFD cleared from the scene at 3:51
AM.
