On Saturday May 11th at 3:01 AM, the Monmouth Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1239 South Main Street in Monmouth. Engine 23 and Ladder 40 responded to the scene with Engine 23 arriving within 2 minutes. Upon arrival, the crew on Engine 23 found a structure, approximately 40’ x 40’ in size, that was fully involved in fire. Off-duty firefighters were called to assist and Assistant Chief Spears established command. Firefighters used two attack lines and knocked down the fire quickly but the building sustained major damage and is considered a total loss. Other agencies assisting at the scene were the Central Warren Fire Protection District and the Monmouth Police Department. The building was unoccupied and there were no injuries. MFD cleared from the scene at 4:47 AM. The cause of the fire is being investigated by Monmouth Fire Department Investigators.
