Even the friendliest dogs can bite when scared or protecting their territory. Dog bites and injuries related to trying to escape from an aggressive dog pose serious safety concerns for Ameren workers. Public and Media Relations Manager Brian Bretsch offers safety recommendations:

“The best thing you can do is put a ‘Beware of Dog’ sign on your yard, that lets us know that you have a dog. A quick pro tip is you can actually go onto our website, amerenillinois.com, or call or 800-755-5000 number and tell someone is customer service or on the website that you do have a dog. It does not penalize you when we are coming to your area to do some work, especially if you have called for a natural gas issue or you have an issue with the power coming into your home, it just lets us know to be extra cautious as we are approaching the yard.”

With a recent spike recently in dog bites among Ameren workers, Bretsch reports since 2020, there have been 39 incidents where an employee has received medical attention.
