Joseph W. Shafer, 55, of Galesburg, IL, passed away at 8:15 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at his home.

He was born on July 7, 1968 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Jodi and Mary (Hasting) Shafer.  Joseph was raised and educated in Monmouth and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1987. 

After high school, Joseph proudly served in the United States Army. 

Joseph was an over the road truck driver for many years.  Currently he was working at DD Homes in Galesburg as a caregiver.  Joseph enjoyed fishing, cooking, watching NASCAR, and racing cars with his dad and brothers. 

Surviving Joseph are his brothers, Robert (Jeri) Shafer of Galesburg, IL, Mike Shafer of Seaton, IL; his sister, Jennifer (Keith) Mikulich of Lee’s Summit, MO; his maternal grandmother, Mary Hasting of Monmouth, IL; his nieces, Brittany Shafer of Galesburg, IL, Brooke Shafer of Galesburg, IL, Ashlynn Shafer of Aledo, IL; and his nephews, Mike Shafer, Jr. of Monmouth, IL, and Aaron Shafer of Aledo, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Monmouth Cemetery, Monmouth, IL.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials can be made to the Joseph Shafer Memorial to assist the family with funeral expenses and can be made at https://www.mcguireanddaviesfuneralhome.com/resources/make-a-payment.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
