Dozens of fishermen and fisherwomen were able to cast their lines on Saturday, June 15th as a part of State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) and Representative Norine Hammond’s (R-Macomb) First Annual Fishing Derby Event at Giant Goose Ranch.

“It was a great day to see so many of our kids and their parents enjoying the outdoors while competing against one another in this free family fun event,” said Senator Anderson.

This year’s event was hosted at Giant Goose Ranch, an 840-acre recreational playground in Canton featuring more than 50 lakes and ponds, trails and camping.

“I want to thank everyone for coming out and taking part in this event at a unique place that we are lucky to have in the district,” said Representative Hammond.

The first 50 kids at this year’s event were given a free fishing rod/reel combo courtesy of the Future Anglers Foundation. The Illinois Conservation Police also gave a water/boat safety presentation. Awards handed this year were for the biggest fish, most fish caught and sportsman award.
