Like other school districts, colleges, and universities across the country, the West Central School district has vacancies to fill before this next school year. While the Board of Education is not hitting the panic button yet, Superintendent Stacey Day informs they will look to a Plan B in July for more creative ways on attracting applicants to the district:
“We are not going to panic in June. We are going to let it play out, we are going to keep looking, and see what we can find. We will start to really dig into what Plan B might need to be in July as we get closer to the school year. Being in education is hard. There is a lot of pressure when you work in a school, for all levels. There is a lot of pressure to do well, from your colleagues, and there is a ton of support there as well, but I think the public’s pressure is really hard. What we are seeing in what our kids are dealing with outside of school and that gets really heavy. Education is not really one of those jobs that you can work 8 am to 5 pm, go home and never have to think about again, that stuff carries with you. Everybody always talks money, that is a piece of it, I think, but people will stay or leave really for how they feel more so than even money. We put a big priority here on just making sure that we are supporting all of our new people and helping all of our staff as much as we can.”
In July, the West Central Board of Education members will meet on a Saturday morning for a retreat, where they will discuss three broad topics previously mentioned at meetings in further details.
