Mr. Larry Dean Murk, 82, of St. Augustine, Illinois died 5:36 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2024, at his home.

He was born June 1, 1942, in Avon, Illinois to Oliver L. “Punk” and Erma E. (Chance) Murk.

Surviving are two sons, Kevin Dean (and LeAnn) Murk of Monmouth, Illinois and Gerald Cecil Murk of Galesburg, a stepdaughter, Jackie Ebbert of Lewistown, Illinois, a sister, Nancy J. (and Gordon) Logan of Mission, Texas, five grandchildren, Kolby Kreps, Kyle Kreps, Makyna Ebbert, Grace Murk, and Kendall Murk and four great grandchildren, Jonny, Kinsley, Kannon, and Klayton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry graduated from Abingdon High School in 1960, and later attended Culver Stockton College in Missouri. He was a farmer in the St. Augustine and Abingdon area his whole life and retired in 2006. He was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. He served on the Indian Point Township Board for several years. He was a 4-H leader and a member of the FFA. Larry enjoyed farming and tractor pulls. He was a member of several tractor pulling associations. He enjoyed touring the countryside by going to tractor pulls with his lifelong friend, Jim McGrew. Most of all he loved attending his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in Abingdon Cemetery. Pastor Connor Morrison will officiate. Memorials may be made to Abingdon/Avon FFA.
