Area residents will have an opportunity to relax at an outdoor summer evening band concert this Sunday, July 28, at Monmouth College.

The Monmouth Municipal Band and the widely acclaimed Nauvoo Pageant Bagpipe Band will come together to perform at 6:30 p.m. on the Monmouth College Wallace Hall Plaza. The concert, which will last for about an hour, is free and open to the public. Area residents can enjoy the concert by bringing a lawn chair or blanket.

Based in nearby Nauvoo, Illinois, the all-volunteer Nauvoo Pageant Bagpipe Band performs throughout the region at festivals, fairs, pageants and parades. The Monmouth Municipal Band is a summer community band made up of teachers, community members and students of all ages.

Both bands will perform their own set lists as well as come together to perform the favorites “Highland Cathedral,” “Amazing Grace” and “Scotland the Brave.”

“We are excited to host these two bands on our campus and offer members of the community a marvelous summer musical experience,” said Justin Swearinger, who is a Monmouth music professor and the college’s director of instrumental activities.
