Margaret Katherine Mathews, 93, of Galesburg, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, September 26, 2024, in the Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born March 23, 1931, in West Blocton, Alabama, the daughter of Thomas Oscar and Lizzie (Rice) Jones. She was married to Berry Mathews when her daughters were born. They later divorced.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Michael J.) Hummel of Bennington, Indiana and Sherry Evon Mathews Bell of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and a son-in-law, Steve Bell.

Margaret was an assembler at Maytag for 20 years, retiring in 1993. She was of Baptist faith. She was a member of AFL-CIO Local 2063. Margaret enjoyed her cats, watching soap operas and wrestling, casinos, and going with her friends to listen to country bands.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
