Mr. Richard D. “Dick” Feller, 95, of Abingdon, Illinois died Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.
He was born February 17, 1929, in Cissna Park, Illinois to William E. and Minnie (Barth) Feller. He married Darla Bowlus on November 15, 1955, in Indiana. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2015.
Surviving are two sons, Ricky Feller of Abingdon and Michael (and Karen) Feller of Champlin, Minnesota, three daughters, Cris (and Barry) Rehling of Galesburg, Illinois, Sandra (and Todd Robinson) Links of London Mills, Illinois, and Linda (and Kirk) Danforth of Burlington, Iowa, a sister, Isabelle Bauer of Fairbury, Illinois, eight grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Steven Feller, six brothers, and one sister.
Dick graduated from Cissna Park High School in 1947. He then proudly served in the United States Army, 24th Infantry Division as a combat engineer. He served with distinction for two years during the Korean conflict. Dick was on the ground in Japan and Korea. He received the Korean service medal with three bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Japan), and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. After he returned home, he was a pressman for the Uarco Printing Firm in Watseka, Illinois for 30 years and retired in 1991. He attended Abingdon United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion #527 in Cissna Park. Dick was an avid Chicago Cubs fan attending numerous baseball games in Wrigley Field.
As Dick requested, his body has been donated to science. A Celebration of Life visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastor Connor Morrison officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Abingdon American Legion Post #381. Private cremation burial will be at a later date in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
