United Red Storm Volleyball Playing for Back-to-Back Regional Championships

Share

The United Red Storm volleyball team will play for a class 1A regional championship Thursday night at Abingdon-Avon High School. The 4th seeded Red Storm will take on sub-sectional top-seed Brimfield Lady Indians at 6:00, with the winner moving on to next week’s sectional tournament at Williamsfield High School. Brimfield ended the West Central Heat’s season in the semifinals last night and are (24-4-1) overall on the season. United knocked off their fellow Lincoln Trail Conference counterparts, ROWVA/Williamsfield, in their semifinal last night. With the win over the Cougars, the Red Storm garnered their 20th victory of the season. Minus the covid-shortened season of 2020, that extends their 20-win streak to an amazing 20 seasons. Two-thirds of the way through the season, it looked like the streak might come to an end as the Red Storm were (13-14) overall but have since ran off 7 straight wins. United High School athletic director Jeremy Sharp says the program is proud of the streak and the girls are playing some good volleyball right now.

Although they compete in bordering conferences, Brimfield and United oddlyy haven’t met this season, during non-conference nor tournament play. Last season, United won their first regional title since 2016. Brimfield played for a regional title last season, as well, but fell to Illini Bluffs. The Lady Indians last title came in 2011.
