MDH Welcomes Dr. Michael Waters

McDonough District Hospital welcomes Michael Waters, MD to the MDH Family Clinic and he will oversee the MDH Convenience Clinics. He will officially start January 6, 2025 and will be accepting new patients.

Dr. Waters, who announced his retirement from Western Illinois University Beu Health Center effective December 2024, will join the group of Family Practice providers at MDH – Dr. Richard Minter, Brittney Taylor, FNP-C, and Shelly Niehaus, FNP-C, along with Macomb Convenience Clinic staff Jeffrey Goetz, FNP-C, ENP-BC, and Kyle Brewer, FNP-C, and Christina Chambers, FNP-C at the MDH Monmouth Convenience Clinic.

The MDH Family Clinic is located on the second floor inside Health Services Building 2 at 515 East Grant Street and accepts most insurance plans.

The MDH Convenience Clinic in Macomb is located on the first floor of Health Services Building 2 and takes walk-in appointments seven days a week. The Monmouth Convenience Clinic, located at 2 AmericInn Way, offers walk-in appointments Monday-Friday.

Dr. Waters has practiced medicine locally with compassion and professionalism for many years,” said MDH President & Chief Executive Officer Bill Murdock. “He brings an impressive medical background to our Family Clinic and medical group, and Dr. Waters is a highly-respected leader in our community. I am confident he will deliver exceptional care to those we serve.”

A high school graduate of V.I.T. in Table Grove, Illinois, Dr. Waters earned his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University then attended the SIU School of Medicine. A board certified Family Practice physician, he did his Residency in Family Practice at the Methodist Medical Center of Illinois.

Dr. Waters currently serves as a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Family Medicine.

He joined the staff at Family Practice Associates (now Springfield Clinic) in 1999. During his 13 years working with Family Practice Associates he held medical privileges at MDH and served as the hospital’s Department of Obstetrics Chair, Department of Medicine Chair, Secretary of the Medical Staff (2011-12), and on the Medical Staff Executive Council (2010-11).

Since 2012 he has served as the Chief of Staff at Beu Health Center, taking care of the Western Illinois University student population. Dr. Waters currently oversees two nurse practitioners at Beu Health in addition to medical oversight of ancillary services including: lab, x-ray tests, alcohol and other drugs resource center, and the pharmacy.

A proud supporter of WIU Athletics, Dr. Waters serves as one of the Team Physicians for Leatherneck student-athletes.
