Larry A. Olson, 78, of Alexis, Illinois, passed away at 6:49 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2025, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born February 7, 1946 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Ted and Daizie (Gunther) Olson. He was raised and educated in Alexis graduating from Alexis High School in 1964.

Larry joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War from 1967-1968.

He married Catherine Henry on January 6, 1973 and she preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Krissy Olson of Alexis, Joe (Kathy) Olson of New Boston, Illinois and Anne Margaret (Jimmy) Cavanaugh of Milan, Illinois; grandchildren, Bobby (Meghan) Forget of Cohoes, New York, Nick (Sarah) Forget of Cohoes, New York and Emily (Jake) Brooks of Monmouth, Illinois; Carlie Olson of New Boston, Gracie Olson of New Boston, Izzy and Tommy Cavanaugh of Milan; great-grandchildren, Marley, Luna, Jack and Connor; brothers, Ted (Connie) Olson of Collinsville, Illinois and Roger (Alicia) Olson of Florida. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, best friend Howard King and one great-grandson, Isaiah Metcalf.

Larry liked to mow yards, go fishing, hunting, boating on the river and just being outdoors. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family at Jiggs.

A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at the funeral home. A private family graveside will take place in the Alexis Cemetery at a later date.
