R. Lynn Brown

R. Lynn Brown, age 80, of Carman, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.  He was born July 16, 1944 in LaHarpe, Illinois, the son of George and Isabelle Vaughan Brown.  On February 1, 1964, he married Margie Burrell in Lomax, Illinois.

Lynn was a graduate of Dallas City High School.  He was employed at J.I. Case in Burlington for thirty-one years, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement, he and Margie enjoyed wintering in Florida.  He loved the Mississippi River and enjoyed boating, fishing and camping, and wouldn’t miss an opportunity to attend a good yard sale.  Most importantly, he loved spending time with family.  He  served as President of the former Hend-Co Hills Golf Club in Biggsville, and was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Moore Haven, Florida. He was also a member of United Auto Workers Local 807.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters: Julie (Doug) Brooks of Carman, IL, Kathy (John) Lafary of Smithshire, IL, one son: Jim (Sara) Brown of Stronghurst, eight grandchildren: Jamie (Brian) Plath, Hillary (Richie) Peterson, Mariah (Ken) Malcolm, Monica (Tyler) Wilson, Allison (Nathan) Harden, Mallory (Tyler) Edwards, Jordyn Brown, Jacqueline Evans, and nine great grandchildren: Jayda, Jaycee, Jenna, Brooks, Mila, Tanner, Elliott, Charleigh, and Oliver.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Sharri Lynn Richard, and one brother: William Brown.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 pm. Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst.  The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 13th at Banks & Beals, with Nathan Harden officiating.  Burial will follow in  Carman Cemetery.
