Mr. Lawrence M. “Larry” Gutierrez, 68, of Galesburg, Illinois, was surrounded by love as he completed his earthly journey on Friday, May 1, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Although his unexpected passing brings deep pain and sorrow, solace can be taken in knowing that he will forever be a heavenly protector to loved ones left behind.

Larry was born August 10, 1957, in Galesburg, the son of Alejandro L. and Ramona J. (Gimenez) Gutierrez. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1975. On September 22, 1990, he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Nache, in Galesburg. Together for over 36 beautiful years, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family. The love they shared was one of kind, together they were whole.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Rose Marie; his daughter and pride and joy, Danielle (Nick) Foster of Bettendorf, Iowa; two brothers, David Gutierrez of Galesburg and Ramon (Diana) Gutierrez of Kerrville, Texas; and two sisters, Esther Fox and Regina Hodge, both of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Alexis Marie in 1995; his brother, Alejandro “Sonny” Gutierrez; two sisters, Theresa Gutierrez and Dolly Sundell; and his parents.

Larry dedicated many years of service as a Conductor for the former Santa Fe Railroad, later Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He took great pride in his work and the friendships he formed throughout his career, always known as someone dependable, hardworking, and quick with a story or a smile.

After retiring in 2017, Larry embraced this new chapter in life. In his free time, he loved spending time on the golf course. Playing locally and traveling to surrounding courses, he enjoyed both the game and the camaraderie it brought. He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame football, rarely missing a game and proudly cheering on the Fighting Irish each season. Larry cherished the simple joys of life such as listening to music, cooking delicious food and perfecting his own recipes. He looked forward to each and every day.

Above all else, Larry treasured time spent with his family. His daughters meant the world to him. Guiding his daughter, Danielle, into the kind and loving person she is today was his greatest accomplishment. Danielle was truly the light of his life. Peace can be taken knowing that Larry is once again reunited with his dearly departed daughter Alexis. A man of faith, Larry was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where he found strength and community. He will be remembered for his kind heart, steady presence, and the deep love he had for those closest to him. His legacy lives on in the memories he created and the lives he enriched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel, with the Rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. Larry will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery, beside his beloved daughter, Alexis. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com
