Mrs. Inelda M. Hopping, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
Inelda was born on October 23, 1934, in Supply, Arkansas, the daughter of Charles J. and Freda M. (Dixon) Myers. She married Solomon Eugene “Gene” Hopping on April 3, 1951, in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2010.
Inelda is survived by two sons, Rick Hopping of Gaffney, South Carolina and Kenneth Hopping (William Hattel) of Frederick, Colorado, a daughter, Genelda Hopping of Galesburg, six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one daughter, Monica Westall, her parents, two infant siblings, Truman and Velma Myers, and four sisters, Vada Poyner, Wilma Jones, Joyce Parnaby, and Mirmadean Clayton.
In 1986 Inelda chose to receive her GED and did so with the support and pride of her husband and family. While raising her four children, she worked at many jobs including bookkeeping for Hopping Concrete Construction, until her retirement from Hy-Vee Grocery. Inelda was a devoted member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon, Illinois, and was a good and faithful servant to the end.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Jeremiah Barker will officiate.
