Mrs. Eleanor V. Landon, 94, of Abingdon, Illinois died 3:03 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.
She was born October 14, 1930, in Warsaw, Kentucky to John and Norah (Pennington) Carter. She married Jay W. Landon on November 17, 1951, in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1994.
Surviving are her children, Jaylynne Landon of Abingdon, Cheryl (and Dan) Baggett of Rolla, Missouri, W. Frank (and Lois) Landon of Abingdon, Dennis (and Lori) Landon of Abingdon, and Marilynne Penn of Abingdon, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Carter of Wisconsin, several grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Gay Johnson, and three brothers, Hobert Carter, Pete Carter, and George Carter.
Eleanor graduated from Abingdon High School in 1947. She worked for the Abingdon Telephone company and also in the cafeteria of the Abingdon Schools. Most of all she was a homemaker, taking care of her husband and children. She was an active member and volunteer of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Historical Society. She was also a member of the Quinn’s Hens in Abingdon. She was well known for her home-made noodles and baked goods, especially her cakes. Eleanor was loved by her Abingdon Community and had officiated several funeral services over the years. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Private graveside services were held Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Jeremiah Barker officiated. Memorials may be made the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon.
