Regional Office of Education #33, Regional Superintendent Kathryn Jennings, and the School and Family Engagement program are shining a spotlight on the importance of school attendance throughout the month of September. This effort is part of Attendance Works’ 2025 Attendance Awareness Campaign, which focuses on partnering with schools and families to improve attendance and student engagement.

Throughout September, ROE #33 will highlight our team, our work, and our plans for the School and Family Engagement program moving into FY26. The Attendance Awareness Campaign encourages key actions that align with our mission: using data to understand and address attendance barriers, engaging parents and guardians as partners, and creating safe, connected learning environments where students can thrive. Our work also emphasizes supporting the health and well-being of students, families, and school staff, while involving the entire community in these efforts.

Through the Truants Alternative and Optional Education Program (TAOEP), ROE #33 provides prevention and intervention services for students facing attendance challenges. Our team also connects students and families with resources under the McKinney-Vento Act for those experiencing homelessness. One key initiative is the Attendance Support Academy, a partnership between ROE #33, the Region’s nine School Districts, and Community Support organizations. This panel of community members meets with students and families struggling with chronic absenteeism to create individualized improvement plans that address each student’s unique needs.

Regional Office of Education #33 and Regional Superintendent Kathryn Jennings remain committed to reducing absenteeism and ensuring every student across our four-county region has the opportunity to succeed.
