Jamie Roth of Macomb is celebrating a prestigious personal and professional achievement, thanks to her leadership efforts at WIRC-Community Action Agency (WIRC). She is the Community Services & Public Relations Director for the nonprofit agency, and part of her duties include creating and implementing programs based on community needs. Due to her ideas and collaborative efforts, Roth’s peers from 35 Community Action Agencies across Illinois nominated her for an award.

At the 2025 Illinois Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Annual Meeting in Springfield, Illinois, Roth received a framed certificate of peer recognition for exemplifying the spirit of excellence in development and sharing of innovative approaches. The certificate was given through the Office of Community Assistance (OCA) through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

“I was surprised when my name was called,” said Roth. “Growing up, I was shy and afraid to share my ideas. Seven years ago, I found my voice and embraced my hidden confidence. Knowing that these crazy ideas I have are changing lives and seen as innovative by my peers is humbling and an honor.”

Roth has been in her current leadership role for just over two years, and has been a team member of WIRC for seven years. One of the more popular programs she created is The Ride Forward Project, which provides a bicycle or e-bike to eligible people with low incomes so they can travel to work or appointments. This innovative idea proved to be popular among other CAAs, so Roth was asked by Illinois DCEO representatives to write a reference guide for other agencies interested in starting a program of their own.

In 2024, Roth also walked on the national stage to receive the Certified Community Action Professional (CCAP) certificate, an achievement only given to nine people in Illinois that year. The CCAP certificate curriculum is offered through the National Community Action Partnership (NCAP) and can only be earned by passing a rigorous exam process.

“Having innovative ideas means nothing without a great team,” Roth continued. “Thank you to my team, my colleagues, and to leadership at WIRC and beyond for your support.”

WIRC is a nonprofit that helps people and communities in multiple western Illinois counties. For more information about their services, find them on social media, visit their website at wirpc.org, or call 309-837-2997. The Agency is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
