Story by Parker Cassidy
The Monmouth-Roseville Titans were at home last Saturday for the first round of the Class 3A IHSA Playoffs, hosting the 12th-seeded Manteno Panthers. The Titans left no doubt in this one, throttling the Panthers 39-14. Leading the charge was Nick Huston, who punished Manteno on the ground with 205 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Monmouth-Roseville defense was just as impressive, allowing only 205 total yards while forcing four turnovers.
The Titans did not have much time to celebrate the win, as they now turn their attention to a talented 4th-seeded Bloomington Central Catholic Saints squad. The Saints enter this matchup with a perfect 10-0 record on the season. There will not be much familiarity between the two programs, as they share just one common opponent in Princeton. The Saints faced Princeton in the opening round of the playoffs, winning 41-20, while Monmouth-Roseville defeated the Tigers 36-8 back in Week 5 of the regular season. This has all the makings of a great second-round playoff matchup, with the Titans sitting at 9-1 and the Saints at 10-0.
Head Coach Jeremy Adolphson shares some keys to his squad advancing to the quarterfinals:
Adolphson says the Titans have planned a send-off for the team at 9 a.m. Saturday morning from Sunny Lane.
