Story by Parker Cassidy
The West Central Heat football team was on the road last Saturday for the first round of the I8FA playoffs, taking on one of the top teams in the state in West Carroll. Things didn’t go the Heat’s way, as they fell 42-8 to the 7th seeded Thunder. West Central capped off another highly successful season, finishing with a 7-3 record. The Heat picked up wins over two ranked teams during the year and lost only to West Carroll twice and Amboy-Lamoille-Ohio, both of whom are in the final eight of the playoffs.
Head Coach Jason Kirby says the season didn’t end the way they wanted, but he’s proud of the group and the year they had:
The Heat will graduate five seniors this spring but return a strong core of underclassmen, including several key skill players, as West Central will look to qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive season in 2026.
