The Knox County Health Department has received a Better Birth Outcomes grant to connect families with medical and social benefits in the local area, informs Director of Public Health Information and Community Engagement Erin Olson:
“It is a program that is intertwined with our WIC Department and our Family Health Division. It aims to help reduce maternal and infant morbidity, primarily among those with racial and ethnic disparities. This program works with kids up to six months. Families can get one on one nursing assessments, whether they are pregnant or postpartum. Then, what this program does, it is there to help connect families to either medical or social benefits or any type of support within our community that we can connect you to. We can help assist with getting those families to those connections to get what they need for the better health of their baby and postpartum.”
Additionally, through another received grant, the Knox County Health Department is offering free confidential STI testing until the end of March.
