Solvera Health has launched a medically tailored weight loss program as the first phase of their broader ‘Food as Medicine’ initiative. Dr. Shajahan explains the benefits of a medically supervised and personalized weight loss approach, including the clinical monitoring, patient safety, and risk reduction:

“Obesity is something that is most commonly misunderstood by people and even in our own healthcare system. We think that we are just being couch potatoes and why we are not able to lose weight is what people in general think, but the thing is, there are multi-factors in something contributing to obesity and the excessive fat or weight,” says Dr. Shajahan.

“One of the things, which is under the control is the lifestyle and exercise, but there are other factors which we tend to forget or overlook. So, this is when a physician or provider or clinician comes to play an important role to educate and to council them and to walk through different steps in this journey. Losing weight is more of a lifestyle rather than just a target goal. When you start seeing food is medicine, you will know how easy it is and how healthy you can be,” Dr. Shajahan adds.

This tailored weight loss program follows a clinically proven high protein, low-calorie, and low-carbohydrate approach, before transitioning into nutrient dense enzyme-rich foods currently being grown by a teaming working with Solvera, informs Founder Phil Caplis:

“We have a greenhouse in Indiana right now. We want to bring it to Central Illinois as well. We grow some of the nutrient dense enzyme-rich foods in the world. It is a very innovative technology that my partners developed, and we are very excited to bring it. That way when people are ready to grow back into new foods and real foods, because we do a lot of shakes and bars in the beginning to help them get started on their weight loss. Then we will morph into the greens, the power greens; the things like that people will be very interested in once we start growing them,” Caplis reports.
