Luke Raymond, a Roseville native and psychotherapist with Precise Behavioral Health, served as the keynote speaker at last Sunday’s Monmouth-Roseville High School graduation.
Raymond has worked to expand mental health access across the country, but his message to graduates came back to the lessons he learned from growing up in a small town.
“One of the things I shared with the students is how important it is to take what you learn from growing up in a small town and express that with you wherever you end up. I’ve been all over the country and spent time in Europe doing work on expanding mental health access. I’ve been in rooms with business owners, CEOs, and politicians, that can be intimidating if you’re just some guy from Roseville, Illinois. But what you learn when you sit down with them is they’re just people. Coming from a small town shouldn’t limit your potential or where you end up.”
Raymond added May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s important to look at mental health the same way as physical health. Something people take care of every day, not only when something is wrong.
