Margaret E. Hartley, 81, of Galesburg, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2019 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born June 15, 1938, in Marceline, Missouri, the daughter of Olie F. and Anna M. (Verikious) Lake. She married James R. Hartley on September 15, 1957, in Moline. He preceded her in death on March 17, 2006.

She is survived by three children, Kelley S. (Stan) Stallsmith of Ankeny, Iowa, Tracy R. (Denny) Erickson of Galesburg, and Kyle R. (Josie) Hartley of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren, Brandon (Keilah), Riley (BreeAnn), and Jena Stallsmith, Seth, Shane, and Trevor McLaren, Kayla, Sophie, Clair, Taylor, and Molly Hartley; two great grandchildren, Margot and Killian Stallsmith; four siblings, Mary Ann Schmidt of Moline, Laveta Hodgerson of Moline, Jim Lake of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Nancy (Joe) Johnson of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Darcy Lynn; a brother, Chuck Lake; a sister, Lillian Dyer; and a foster brother, Chuck Motsinger.

Margaret worked on the line at Maytag for over 27 years before retiring. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her yard. Margaret will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, helping, and giving person. Her family was her number one priority and her grandchildren brought her much joy.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2019 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
